And by “high”, I mean “foreign.”

I’m a terrible financial example, but I always hate to turn down a personal tour from an ex-pat. Those are the once in a lifetime kind of trips!
I say you visit her ๐
I have 2 friends living/working in Japan as well. (A program called JET.) They have both invited me – too bad I don’t have enough vacation time to visit.
I say GO! ๐
I have taken a lot of financial advice from you, so let’s swap sides for a minute: DO NOT let this opportunity pass you by. You seem to have a good handle on the importance of balance between longer-term financial goals and shorter-term returns on your hard work so hopefully you won’t require too much convincing. ๐ Seriously though, Japan is one of the most expensive places in the world to travel to, so having a friend to stay with and show you around is a HUGE bonus to what already promises to be an amazing experience.
If you can figure out the details, you totally should! I would love to visit Japan!
I say go! Remember your mantra, ‘experience, not stuff’! I’d say this is quite the experience. You have a good handle and your finances, you have a place to stay AND and tour guide; what’s stopping you! Have a fab time if you decide to go and we know you’ll report back
Go. Not everything saved is monetary.
I agree with everyone. GO
but not only because it’s a great opp but because I went to Japan once, and the prices are CRAZY for a hotel.
$500/USD for a night, in a VERY small room. I mean you feel like it’s a closet!!!!!
To go FREE.. omg.. I’d die. I’d book the flight right now.
And Japan is another planet in my head. They are totally different in every way. There’s beer in vending machines, the fruit is like $80 for a bunch of grapes.. you just have to go to experience it all. It’s a brand new feeling and kind of weird to feel so lost, both physically, mentally and emotionally.
You expect people to speak English and 99.999999999999% of them don’t, so to have a tour guide as your friend to show you around? OMG!

Do it. Be frugal, but do it. I’m taking a friend up on that same offer in South of France next week.
Do it! As everyone else has said, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
One of my friends studied abroad in Australia a few years ago and she was there for almost a year. I also had a standing order to visit but didn’t have the funds or the time back then. I wish I had gone though because I hear Australia’s really expensive to visit too!
Go! I went to Japan last summer and it was awesome. =)
Do it! I’ve had friends in Japan, Thailand, Prague and Africa who made similar offers and I didn’t take them up on it. I’ve regretted it ever since, and they’re no longer living there. DO IT!!!!
Don’t go Don’t go, stay home and clip coupons and collect lent!
Just kidding, you have the money, go! Just don’t go into debt for it.
Aack, you have to go! I had a friend who lived in Greece for a full six months, and I am STILL kicking myself for not visiting her.
Well, didn’t you say something like experience, not possessions?
If I ever wanted to go to Japan, it would be at a time when a friend of mine would be there and would show me around.
You have to go! these are once in a lifetime opportunities! I wish I would have traveled more. I think Japan would be an incredible experience. Who knows? Maybe you will make networking contacts to further your career!
