After 2+ years at wordpress.com, love it as I do, it’s time for my little blog to grow up and move to its own domain.
I’d like to ask for your help. ๐
1. Picking out a domain name
wellheeled.com is taken. I can use a .net, but I really like the .com. Weird? Maybe.
So here are my choices:
a. http://wellheeledblog.com (my current twitter handle).
b. http://wellheeledmoney.com (the most logical choice, but I’m afraid it sounds a little too… “old money”. Which I’m not. I’m not even money at this point.)
c. http://wellheeledsavvy.com (I kind of like this one, but is it too long? Too unclear?)
d. http://wellheeledfinance.com (sounds a little… dry? to me)
e. http://wellheeledpf.com (also logical, and it has the benefit of being shorter…)
f. http://moneywellheeled.com (I like the sound of this one a lot more than wellheeledmoney, and it’s logical)
2. What domain company to use? And what pricing should I expect?
I’m thinking of GoDaddy.com, but that might be because I remember their cheesy SuperBowl ad.
Anyone got any good suggestions for other sites?
I’d love your input!
Congrats on the impending move!
Why not just do wellheeledwithamission.com? Too long?
Or imwellheeled.com.
I also like wellheeledblog.com
I heard some good things from Lunar Pages from “Out of Debt Again”
I’d go with wellheeledblog simply because it’s also your twitter handle. i also like it.
good luck with the move!
Use bluehost…I recently switched to them and their pricing AND support is AMAZING.
I’d go with wellheeledblog to be consistent with your twitter handle. I was like that when I got my domain too…I hate .net so I put “the” in front of my domain.
Good luck! If you choose BH, let me know if you need help but the transfer is pretty simple since you’re on a wp.com blog.
I like wellheeledblog. ๐
I’d go with wellheeledblog too — unless well-heeled.com is taken? I’d say register through GoDaddy (it’s cheaper and your domain will be more portable if you later decide to switch hosts — be sure to check retailmenot.com for coupon codes). It’s a tougher question re: which host to use — I’ve been on Media Temple for a year without any big problems, but there are certainly smaller ones that do the same thing. (Again, I think I found a coupon code for Media Temple that gave me some big discount if I bought the whole year at once.)
I don’t really have a preference for the domain name (and in these days of RSS feeds I’m not sure that it even matters), but I second the recommendation for Bluehost. They are fantastic!
I like wellheeledblog. Its simple, plus its same as your twitter.
I say go with godaddy. I’ve used them before and I have no complaints.
(a) Yay! congratulations!
(b) I like wellheeledblog, too – although any of them would be cool.
(c) I can tell you that I’ve used Bluehost and been, mostly, very happy. Every once and a while, my site goes down, but they fix it really quickly. And their support is great. That said, I am planning to switch next month when it comes up for renewal, and that’s mainly because of cost. If you make money on the site, it’ll compenstate, but since that’s not how I’m really using mine (not primarily anyway), it makes more sense to go with something cheaper.
I like wellheeledblog.com since it’s direct and also your Twitter. I also think the .net is weird!
I use GoDaddy and I’ve been really happy with them. I can’t remember the pricing but I think its less than $20 for two years or so.
Godaddy.com does not seem like it’s full of people I want to do business with. All I know about them is from their commercials, and the demeaning way they treat young women in their advertising did not impress me. It’s almost the opposite of the message you’re sending here, that young women can think and provide for themselves. Just my $0.02. I’ll still read your blog regardless of your registrar. ๐
When I started my own blog I went with Dream Host. The package I bought also came with a free domain name for one year – so you might want to look into your hosting set up before you buy the domain name.
Then you can just transfer the domain to GoDaddy or another cheaper registrar and use them to renew it after your one year is up.
I vote wellheeledblog.com as well.
i like moneywellheeled.com ๐
I like wellheeledblog.com. How exciting! Congrats!
Maybe wellheeledgirl.com?
I just stopped by your blog and thought I would say hello. I like your site design. Looking forward to reading more down the road.
I like wellheeledblog.com as well. It will make it very easy to remember for those that follow you on Twitter.
wellheeledblog
DreamHost, they are fantastic and if you ever want to do more with your website than just hosting a blog, they are absolutely incredible and their customer support is phenomenal. Not to mention they had a special, which I think might still be going on for free hosting for apps, aka something like a WordPress blog – and since they’re so darn awesome you could always upgrade to regular hosting later if you so desired. Personally, I have them, they have a 97-day money back guarantee trial period that rocks. I got ’em and have referred all my friends to them (and anyone else who asks) besides the customer service is absolutely phenomenal.
And I think wellheeledblog since it matches your twitter is a good idea. But I also like wellheeled.net. Just my two cents.
I like wellheeledblog.com!
I think wellheeledblog is cool, it’s not too long. I have .net and I guess it doesn’t really bother me. If the squatter at misformoney.com lets it lapse I’ll grab it but otherwise, I’d rather have my URL and blog name match then worry about .net or .com.
I like wellheeledblog. I sympathize; I don’t like .net that much, either.
I actually like choice D – I don’t think it’s dry at all! I think my second choice would be F.
As for hosting, I TOTALLY recommend http://blogs-about.com
Not only are they an amazing host (I’ve been with them 3 years), but they are WordPress experts. The owner wrote WordPress for Dummies!
YAY!
My vote is for wellheeledblog.com or well-heeled.com, if it isn’t taken. ๐
I’ve heard fantastic things about GoDaddy – my roommate used it in the past and an ex-bf also loved it.
Good luck!
I like wellheelded blo as well.
I’m late, but I vote for wellheeledblog. And congrats on taking the blog to the next level.

Another vote for wellheeledblog. I would grab it fast. Once you advertise that you want it someone may snatch it up from under you and try to sell it to you for way more than if it is not taken.
Done! ๐
I like (a.) wellheeledblog.com (current twitter handle).
