I am a registered independent who tends to vote Democrat, though I deeply admire McCain for having sacrificed so much for his country. But 2008 belongs to the Democrats, partly because Obama really struck a chord with people, and partly because of a confluence of events that neither the Democrats nor the Republicans can control worked in favor of the Dems.
America is heading into a new world, politically and economically. I’m eager to see what a Democratic-majority Congress and a Democratic presidency can do. I am wary, however, of a single party controlling a “super-majority” of the seats.
It will also be interesting to see what happens in the mid-term elections in two years. It’s great being the dominant party, but use your power poorly (or be hit by events outside of your control), and the voters generally make their voices heard – by voting you out.
