One of my favorite drinks is a honey tea latte (really just a milk tea with honey) from a little coffee shop a few blocks from where I live. It costs $4, but it tastes delicious.
Today, I was about to turn in the parking lot to get the drink when I thought, well, if I just get a milk tea, I can save 75 cents, then I can just go home and add the honey myself. Then I thought, well, I can save $1.50 if I buy a tea but add the milk and honey myself. Then I thought, heck, I can just make the tea, pour the milk, stir in the honey, and drink my own honey milk tea latte conconction, thereby saving the entire $4.
(All those thoughts ran through my mind in under 2 seconds). And I drove home.
Now I’m making tea. And guess what? I’m out of milk.
LMAO @ no milk.
Another plus is that you can drink it when you want and as much as you want.
I love tea. I have about 10 different varieties in my pantry right now. I like making it myself because I like my tea strong.
I am trying to apply the same logic when I am tempted to eat out. Why buy it, when I can go home and make it myself? I love to cook anyways.
😐
Let’s see how this plays out. LOL
That is quite possibly the saddest story I have ever read.
HAHA!
story of my life!
Why do you ruin your tea with those additives? Tea is too awesome to spoil with dairy and sweetener.
haha!
Milk is expensive nowadays. Did you get milk? Does it taste the same??
I love milk tea using lipton tea and milk. Honey’s a bit too sweet for me. I used to get pearl milk tea at the chain coffee shops but the pearls were difficult to chew and the calories add up – 800 whopping calories on a pearl milk tea!
Condense milk is good w/black tea.
I’m a plain type of tea girl. I try to avoid coffee shops because I feel like I always pay way too much for the tea there….
the $4 is the convience factor, no labor or time wasted making it perfect like the coffee shops do
LOL I feel your pain. I remembered to buy my (soy) milk at the store yesterday, remembering your story … then when I was packing up my scooter to get to work this morning, I left my carton of milk sitting in the garage! Ahh!!
The best tea I’ve had is at Indian restaurants. The tea leaves are heated in milk instead of water so it’s very rich and thick compared to regular tea with milk. I tried making it at home and it worked out pretty well, but it’s not too frugal considering the price of milk these days.
mmm…i love tea! i’m a chai tea latte ADDICT from s-bucks…but i only let myself indulge once in a while b/c it is nearly $4. when i do get it though…SO WORTH IT.
Congratulations! On the make-it-yourself thing; not the out-of-milk thing. It all adds up.
[…] just read this post on Well-Heeled and it got me thinking about how I really should make my own lattes at home too, although mine is a […]
