I’ve been busy trying to get ready for my trip…. so my apologies for the nonexistent posting over the last week. Do I still have readers left?
One of the things I’m looking forward to is New York’s Restaurant Week, when over 200 restaurants across the city are offering 3-course prix-fixe dining for lunch ($24.07) and dinner ($35.00). It is my chance to eat at places that normally would be way, WAY out of my budget.
I am so excited. Anyone from NYC have advice on what restaurants I MUST try? I need to book my reservations soon. ![]()
Thanks so much for that tip! I didn’t know about it… will definitely check it out. As far as other recommendations go, I can only shrug really. I haven’t been eating out much yet - or at least not in places better than a diner!
you’ve gotta try Kobe Club if you love steak- my rezzie is on the 19th!
Restaurant weeks are awesome. The one in San Francisco one usually falls on the week of my birthday, so I get to check out some great places for cheap and celebrate at the same time. What a great (and frugal) deal!
Let us know where you eat!! I’m jealous…living in the midwest doesn’t yield the array of restaurants that one would encounter in NYC.
My favorites from that list are:
Barbetta
The Blue Water Grill
Chanterelle
Craft Bar
Devi
Eleven Madison Park
Gotham Bar & Grill
Gramercy Tavern
Spice Market
SushiSamba7
Tribeca Grill
Union Square Cafe
I don’t know if I’ll get the chance to take advantage of Restaurant Week (GRE coming up!), but if I do, here are the places I’ve never tried that I’d want to:
Cafe Boulud
China Grill
Firebird
Megu
Morimoto
Nobu
Pigalle
Places I’d skip:
Indochine
Atlantic Grill (Blue Water is the same thing done better)
Kobe Club (search “jeffrey chodorow frank bruni” for more)
The Central Park Boathouse*
Tavern on the Green*
The Water Club
*These are “destination” restaurants–they’re not really about the food. That said, the food is lousy.
What’s funny is that snooty people look down on you when you go into fancy restaurants on restaurant week. One place I’ve only been to when someone else has paid is “Le Bernardin.” I usually hate fancy food but I will never forget the things I ate there. It might not be available for restaurant week.
Chin Chin is great for higher class chinese food.
